Exercise Admittedly I am still having to find the best exercise plan that I can stick with and see progress with. I've noticed that I'm beginning to get the extra skin going on lately and have had to re-evaluate my exercise regime so that I can reduce the flab and increase the tone. For Christmas 2004 I received a ProForm treadmill and walk on it regularly. I have set my goals for February (which are listed below and will be tracking my progress both here in my diary entries and over at FitDay.com. Back a few years ago I did the Michael Thurmond (the same guy they use on the show Extreme Makeover) 6 week body makeover program. I was astonished with the results (I lost 30 pounds and kept it off for over a year until I took a high-stress part-time job and relieved the stress induced headaches with eating piles of junk) and would have gone back on the program if I was just able to summon the courage to go back on the very bland diet. One of the things I liked the best about the program was the use of "resistant body sculpting" instead of weights (and having to go to the gym). Resistant body sculpting uses the body's own weight as the resistance, much like the philosophy behind yoga and pilates, to name a few. Back in the 60's, fitness guru, Jack Lalanne used this philosophy in his hit television fitness show. I remember my mother using these bands made of rubber and attaching them to door knobs, the back and legs of chairs and even beneath her feet as she moved about the room while watching Jack on the black and white television in our living room. Funny that I should be doing the same routine years later in my own home! I found my bands, the book I used that described the various exercises my body type and shape would require to get me into the shape I want to be, the large poster with more information and one of the two videos that came with the expensive (but well worth it) program package I ordered. I just started (last week of January) on this program and will provide more information as I progress within my entries. Currently I'm doing the following resistant exercises:
In the summer (or as soon as the pool temp is warm enough), I'll be doing laps. I love to swim and now that I have a nice large pool, that's where I plan on spending the majority of my exercise time. I was doing some weight training, but am cancelling my gym membership due to financial reasons. I'm fine with that because the resistant training more than covers that aspect. Here are my goals for working out on the treadmill, etc. during the month of February, 2005:
Comments? Leave me a note or email me, or skip ahead to my most current entry & leave me a note there. I'm afraid I'd overlook a comment if it was left here and I wouldn't want that to happen! Miss These? |
